We meet at the Radison Blue hotel in Cape Town for introductions, a pre-tour welcome and tour briefing.
We explore the Cape Peninsula and Cape Town, driving along the iconic Chapman’s Peak drive, round Cape Point to Simonstown, where we have lunch. The afternoon drive takes us back to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront for a 28-minute flight in a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter, following the same route as the morning, but in the air! The late afternoon is spent with a harbour cruise on a catamaran whilst sundowners are enjoyed.
We continue to explore magnificent Cape Town with a VIP trip up Table Mountain in the famous Table Mountain Cable Car. After lunch and shopping we go on a Catamaran Cruise form the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, ending the day with fine dining at Fyn Restaurant.
After breakfast at the Radison Blue hotel, we set off to beautiful Franschhoek, known for its exquisite dining and fine wines. The route takes us along the R44 – one of the most picturesque drives next to the Southern Ocean from Gordon’s Bay to Rooiels. We head through the Cape farmlands and cross the Theewaterskloof dam to tackle the breathtaking Franschhoek pass, stopping for a glass of Champagne at the lookout point from where you can see the entire Franschhoek valley. After lunch we visit several of the best wine farms in the Cape (with a shuttle service). The evening is spent exploring the many fine art and other shops, all within walking distance of the hotel, where dinner will be served.
The Franschhoek Motor Museum history dates to 1974 when Dr. Anton Rupert first showcased his classic vehicle collection. The tradition was carried forward by his son, who relocated the museum to L’Ormarins Estate in Franschhoek. We spend the morning marvelling at one of the world’s biggest classic car collections, followed by lunch. After lunch we hop onto the Franschhoek Wine Tram, that will take us to a selection of some of the finest wine farms in the Cape for wine tasting. Dinner is served at the hotel.
The iconic Karoo is a must see for any visitor to South Africa – the sheer beauty and solitude is immense! Inverdoorn Private Reserve is our destination for the next two days and is home to Africa’s “Big 5”. Our route takes us through the Hellshoogte pass, through the town of Wellington, and over the heart-stopping Bain’s Kloof Pass – a world-class driving experience. After Ceres we hit the dirt roads and lunch is served at Inverdoorn. The afternoon is spent at leisure around the pool and bar area, and you are welcome to indulge in the complementary spa treatments included in the tour package. At night we go stargazing – the Karoo is one of the best astrological areas in the world. Dinner is served in the dining area.
Inverdoorn is widely known for its Cheetah rehabilitation project and today we witness how Cheetahs chase down their prey as part of the program. An amazing experience very few people ever get to see. The day is filled with a variety of activities – guided game drives to see the Big 5, in-room spa treatments, guided bird watching, E-Bike rides and relaxing by the pool with a cold drink in hand, soaking up the warm Karoo rays. (No travel on day 5)
A visit to the Cape is not complete without witnessing the awesome splendour of the Cederberg – a 710km2 protected mountain wilderness area that is the home to San rock art. Our route for the day takes us here, where we will taste wine at the highest winery in the country, and explore San Rock art dating back 10 000 years. We stay at the magnificent Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat.
After a scrumptious breakfast we head back to Cape Town on this, the last day of the tour. We leave the rugged mountains of the Cederberg behind and drive towards Cape Town along South Africa’s West coast – a wonderful drive accentuated with the best seafood lunch and visits to the quant seaside villages along the route.
